Local Renewables aims to share information for local governments on how to adopt sound energy practices and to report on the Local Renewables activities taking place world wide.
Information for Local Governments
It is aimed at informing and supporting European, national and community decision-makers who address the interconnection between sustainable energy, climate protection, security of energy supply, as well as sustainable local development and using resources at a community level.
The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the status of Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy (RE) in India. Data and observations have been obtained through various contacts with different Indian local governments including the partner cities- Bhubaneswar and Nagpur. Many facts and data have been obtained from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Local Renewables Activities world-wide
The activities in 2007 focused on several exciting developments in India and Brazil, such as progress in the Resource Centres; completing two city energy consumption assessments, the development of local policies and the participation of stakeholders. Furthermore there were a few international Local Renewables events - in Freiburg, Betim and India, and encouraging developments in Europe.
The 2009 update to the 2007 report, illuminating the work of the ever-growing Local Renewables Model Communities Network and the steps that cities can do to incorporate renewable energy and energy efficiency into their own energy policies.
