The City of Nagpur, renowned as the Orange City, is an important administrative and commercial centre that has been experiencing an economic boom in the last few years.

Nagpur has a population of 2.1 million (2001 Census) living in an area of approximately 220 km². The city's culture is cosmopolitan, containing a large number of people from other Indian states. Nagpur is a major education centre in Central India, home to Nagpur University, one of India’s oldest universities (founded 1923).

Resource Centre

Nagpur officially opened the first Resource Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency on November 28th, 2006. The Centre is strategically located inside the Municipal Corporation buildings, visibly situated in an area frequented by citizens.

The yearly trends reveal that the emissions went down by 12% in 2005-06 as compared to 2003-04. Water pumping accounts to the highest emission 59.8% followed by the streetlights, which emits 33.2% of the overall emission.
